Children are often putting items where they do not belong, and it is imperative that local hospitals can remove these items quickly and safely.
The American Association of Poison Control Centers documented that 46% of the more than 2,159,000 foreign body (FB) ingestions reported occurred in children aged five years and under. In children, 98% of FB ingestions are unintentional and occur in the home environment. The FBs commonly ingested by children in these cases are coins, batteries, and magnets, as well as other small objects, including pills and small toys.
