CDF is honored to be presenting our 2014 Medical Service Award to Dr. Gustavo Stringel. Dr. Stringel has earned international recognition for pioneering techniques in minimally invasive pediatric surgery. He serves as the surgeon in chief of the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, as well as a professor of surgery and pediatrics at New York Medical College. Dr. Gustavo Stringel is board certified in general surgery, pediatric surgery, and surgery critical care.
Dr. Stringel received his medical degree from the University of Mexico and completed his general surgery residency in the prestigious Gallie Program at the University of Toronto. This was followed by a pediatric surgery residency at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. Prior to joining New York Medical College, he served as associate professor of surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
Dr. Gustavo Stringel has an extensive history of contributions to groundbreaking clinical and academic work. In addition to publishing more than 90 articles in major journals and giving presentations and seminars throughout the world, he is an editor of the Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (JSLS) and a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Stringel has appeared on Castle Connolly’s list of America’s Top Doctors and the Top Doctors in New York for ten consecutive years, and he was named one of the Top Minimally Invasive Surgeons in New York by New York Magazine.
